Invisalign is a completely new approach to straightening teeth. Instead of metal brackets and wires that push and pull teeth into place, Invisalign is a more controlled process that uses clear plastic aligners to gently reposition your teeth.

Advantages of Invisalign®

Invisalign works just as well as traditional braces when it comes to straightening teeth, but it also has these key advantages:

  • Comfort – Invisalign is made with smooth, clear plastic that is more comfortable than bulky metal braces. After a while, you’ll forget you’re even wearing them!

  • Convenience– With Invisalign, you can continue eating your favorite foods and your oral hygiene routine remains unchanged because you can remove your aligners for brushing and flossing.

  • Appearance– Invisalign is virtually invisible, so your coworkers and classmates won’t even realize you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

While Invisalign is often thought of as a cosmetic dental treatment, its benefits go far beyond simple aesthetics. Straight teeth are healthy teeth; when your teeth are crowded, they’re more difficult to clean and at a higher risk of tooth decay. An uneven bite can cause your teeth to wear down or fracture, but Invisalign will take pressure off of these teeth by shifting them into proper alignment.

The Invisalign® Process

When you come in for an Invisalign consultation, we’ll make sure it’s right for your needs. Invisalign is a fantastic option for most patients, but there are some complex orthodontic cases in which braces are preferable. Assuming Invisalign is a fit for you, we’ll take photographs and digital impressions of your smile and bite, which will allow us to create your unique treatment plan. You’ll also be able to see a preview of what your smile will look like once your treatment is complete!

Invisalign fabricates your custom aligners, then you’ll wear each set for about 2 weeks before moving onto the next. Wear your aligners for at least 20 hours a day, removing them only for brushing and eating, and average treatment time is six to 12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign®

Does Invisalign actually work?

Of course! We wouldn’t offer Invisalign if it didn’t work. Although it looks very different from orthodontic braces, it uses the same method of exerting constant pressure on your teeth to gradually move them into alignment over time.

Is Invisalign effective for adults?

Yes, Invisalign is a great choice for adults who need orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is just as effective for most patients and because it’s discreet, most adults prefer Invisalign over metal braces.

Is Invisalign a permanent fix?

Just like with braces, your results from Invisalign will be permanent if you wear your retainers as instructed once your treatment is complete.

Does insurance pay for Invisalign?

If your dental insurance covers orthodontic treatment, it’s likely that it will cover the cost of Invisalign, although this isn’t always the case. We’re happy to help you understand your benefits and out-of-pocket costs.

What happens if I don’t wear Invisalign for 20 hours a day?

Nothing—and that’s the problem! Invisalign only works when you’re wearing your aligners. When you’re not wearing them, they’re not getting that constant gentle pressure that moves your teeth into the positions we’ve planned. While not wearing them for a single day won’t have much of an impact on your treatment, if you make a habit of not wearing them, it can mean you’ll have a longer treatment time.
